As Austin’s top Financial Advisor and Money Coach, Capital Budget Strategies, LLC feels an urge to help fellow Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey.
People in Austin want to give money, in kind donations, their time – anything to help out!
While Austin is certainly full of generous people, there are some in town who will try and profit from your sense of charity – so beware!
While you really want to put a dollar or two into the jar labeled “Hurricane Relief” someone is holding at the intersection of Congress and Cesar Chavez, do you really know where that money will end up?
It does not take an Austin Financial Advisor or Austin Money Coach to know there are shady people in the world, including in Austin.
To give you in-depth information on the “charitable” organization that is getting your dollars, check out Charity Navigator. Formed in 2001, Charity Navigator is an “independent charity watchdog that evaluates charitable organizations in the United States.”
Yikes, will you be surprised what you read about some of the famous charities! Did you know that the American Red Cross is not as squeaky clean as one would think – or hope? (Shame on the ARC for their conduct during the Haiti earthquake!)
Please give all you can to our fellow Texans suffering so much – but make sure all your money goes to their aid and not to someone trying to make a profit off your generosity or someone else’s suffering!
